What is Expressive Arts Therapy?

Have you ever experienced a moment where you couldn’t find the right word to describe what you were feeling? Or, was there a moment when a song came on the radio and brought back so many memories for you? These are moments when the expressive arts can support your journey of healing & growth! Creativity can access the subconscious mind and support us in reaching deeper parts of ourselves words cannot. Together, we will weave music, visual arts, dance, poetry, and drama & role playing into talk therapy so that you are able to express yourself in many ways!

But “What if I’m Not an Artist” You Say?

You don’t have to be an “artist” to engage in the expressive arts. Expressive arts therapy is for everyone and welcomes you just as you are! Expressive arts isn’t about technique. Rather, it is about your creative expression and your empowerment!

Will we be doing art our entire therapy session?

Of course not! Just like other therapists, expressive art therapists are trained in traditional talk therapy as well. Think of it as having expressive arts as just another tool in addition to talk therapy to support you on your journey. It is there whenever you need or desire to explore it at your own pace.
